CPH has partnered with The HeArd and the Cleveland Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to provide select ASL-interpreted performances during our 2024-25 Season. Guests who would like to attend these performances should use the ASL promo code when purchasing their tickets to ensure they will be in view of the interpreters.
ASL Performances:
At our English Open Caption Performances, a screen placed near the stage displays the spoken dialogue as well as the sounds heard during the live production. This allows patrons with hearing disabilities the opportunity to see the stage action and not miss a single word. Guests who would like to attend these performances should use the promo code CAPTION when purchasing their tickets to ensure they will be in view of the captioning screen.
Open Caption (English) Performances:
At our Spanish Open Caption Performances, a screen placed near the stage displays the spoken dialogue and the sounds heard during the live production. This allows Spanish-speaking audiences to see the stage action and not miss a single word.
Please note: Open Caption (Spanish) Performances during the 2024-2025 season are pending. Contact boxoffice@clevelandplayhouse.com or call 216-400-7023 if you have any questions.
Assistive listening devices (ALDs) amplify and improve the sounds that come from the stage. The receivers operate on radio channels unique to the Allen, Outcalt, and Helen theatres and are heard through headphones. Patrons who would like an ALD to enhance their experience can acquire a device free of charge from the House Manager's office before their performance. ALDs are designed to be used without hearing aids. Patrons who use hearing aids and cochlear implants with a "T" switch (telecoil) should request a neck loop when they arrive at the theatre. The neck loop will work while your hearing aids remain in place.
CPH has partnered with the Cleveland Sight Center to provide Audio Described Performances. Patrons with vision disabilities can listen to a description of the visual aspects of the performance described live via a small radio receiver. (This service describes what is happening on the stage during the parts of the performance where there is no dialogue, i.e. during fight scenes. Patrons who would like to attend these performances should use the promo code AUDIO when purchasing their tickets to ensure they will be provided with a special headset. We ask that you purchase at least three weeks before your desired performance to ensure we have a describer scheduled for you.
Large print programs are available at all performances on a first-come, first-served basis. Just ask for a Red Coat before entering the theatre.
CPH provides sensory-friendly kits at each performance to support audience members with sensory needs. These kits include the following:
Patrons can also request noise-canceling headphones and weighted lap pads as needed. Patrons who would like a sensory-friendly kit can pick one up free at the House Manager’s office before the show. After the performance, all items are to be returned to the House Manager’s office.
They are welcomed at Cleveland Play House. Just let us know when making your reservation to ensure there is space for your companion.
