CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE TO PRESENT A FREE PLAY READING OF BENEATHA’S PLACE FEATURING THE CAST OF CLYBOURNE PARK
MONDAY, APRIL 7, 2014
CLEVELAND, OH (Apr. 3, 2014) – Cleveland Play House and the Clybourne Park cast will present a special FREE reading of Beneatha’s Place and a post-performance conversation about how we continue to wrestle with race, community and legacy in America. Cleveland Play House is proud to present a reading of this thought-provoking play on Monday, April 7 at 7 p.m. in the Allen Theatre at PlayhouseSquare. The Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning Clybourne Park is playwright Bruce Norris' response to the classic play A Raisin in the Sun. Clybourne, in turn, prompted Beneatha's Place, noted writer-director Kwame Kwei-Armah's response to his perception that Clybourneperpetuates "the connotation… that whites build and blacks destroy." Mirroring the structure of Clybourne Park, but following the restless intellectual Beneatha Younger of A Raisin in the Sun, this new play gives her a new life and path far beyond that iconic Chicago living room.
Beneatha’s Place Cast: Kristen Adele, Bernard Bygott, Jessica Kitchens, Christian Pedersen, Jim Poulos, Remi Sandri, Roya Shanks, Daniel Morgan Shelley
