Christina

an irreverent passion

First, there was Carrie. Then there was Heathers. And now, there’s Christina. Christina Alvarez is the charismatic leader of the Hillsong Prep Girls’ Choir, a college-bound honors student, and an all-around Good Girl. While her choir-mates revel and raise hell on an overnight trip, Christina dares to embrace the “bad.” Backs will be stabbed, hearts will be broken, truths will surface, and nothing will ever be the same again. Combining humor, horror, and just a bit of camp, Christina is a bold and darkly satirical coming-of-age story.

(Mayor) can't believe she's nearing the end of her CWRU/CPH adventure! She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and raised in friendly Fridley, Minnesota. She graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN with double majors in Honors Theatre and Communication Studies. Favorite credits include: To Kill a Mockingbird more(Mayor) can't believe she's nearing the end of her CWRU/CPH adventure! Favorite credits include: To Kill a Mockingbird (The Guthrie Theater), TOUCH, a remake of the 1984 Emmy Award winning film (Illusion Theater), and various commercials ranging from the Minnesota State Lottery to hand modeling for KeyBank. She recently made her Cleveland Play House debut in Into the Breeches! (Ida Green) while also understudying the role of Jasmine in Pipeline. CWRU/CPH Credits include: Jessica and Salarino (The Merchant of Venice); Sorel Bliss (Hay Fever); Sorin (The Seagull); Shirley (Fifth of July). Naomi in Sugar (Phoenix Theater), Carlos Sirah’s The Utterances (The Playwright’s Center). She is a big fan of theatre for social justice, the German language, and gummy bears!

She has been seen in the CWRU/CPH productions of Hay Fever as Judith Bliss, The Seagull as Masha, and Fifth of July as Sally Friedman. Summer of 2018 she appeared internationally at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Call of the Void. Additional recent professional credits include Agnes of God (Aleatoric Theatre), A Little Princess (Windy City Music Theatre), and Seminar (Spartan Theatre Company). (Honorary Producer) is an arts patron, community activist, and chief executive officer of the Roe Green Foundation. With a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Communications from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in Theatre from Kent State University, her experience in stage and business management includes more(Honorary Producer) is an arts patron, community activist, and chief executive officer of the Roe Green Foundation. Today she is president emeritus of CAVORT, Inc., the Conference About Volunteers of Regional Theatres and serves on the Kent State University School of Theatre and Dance advisory board, the foundation board of Kent State University, the board of Porthouse Theatre, the board of Maltz Jupiter Theatre in Jupiter, FL, and the board of Cleveland Play House. She is responsible for the Roe Green Visiting Director Series for the School of Theatre and Dance at Kent State and the University of Colorado. Ms. Green has received numerous awards for her support of the arts and new play development including the 2009 State of Ohio Governor’s Award for Arts Patron, the Dramatist Guild’s Patron of the Arts Award (2013), the Muse Award (2014) from the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, and the Theatre Forward Chairman’s Award (2017). In 2013, she received the CPH Centennial Star Award that recognizes select individuals who have made special and important contributions to CPH’s rich legacy of artistic and educational programming. She is the first recipient of the CPH Super Nova Award (2015) in recognition of her leadership and generosity which has been instrumental in elevating CPH’s presentation of new works through New Ground Theatre Festival. 2019 marks the eighth year of the Roe Green Award at CPH which recognizes a playwright and the development of a new work.

(CPH Dramaturg) is in her ninth season at Cleveland Play House, where she is the literary manager and resident dramaturg. Dramaturgy at CPH includes Light It Up!, Clue, Our Dad is in Atlantis, Christina, The Hat Box, Egress, Cicada, Tiny Houses, Minton’s Place, Ghost Party, The Chinese Lady, The more(CPH Dramaturg) is in her ninth season at Cleveland Play House, where she is the literary manager and resident dramaturg. Dramaturgy at CPH includes Light It Up!, Clue, Our Dad is in Atlantis, Christina, The Hat Box, Egress, Cicada, Tiny Houses, Minton’s Place, Ghost Party, The Chinese Lady, The Nolan Williams Project, CARE monologues, The Good Peaches, FEED, Little Row Boat, Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors, and the Violins of Hope concert with the CWRU/CPH MFA Acting Program and the Cleveland Orchestra. (Playwright) was named Rising Theatre Star by the Improper Bostonian in the 2018 Boston’s Best Issue. She is the playwright behind Our Dear Dead Drug Lord (developed at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Off the Grid, and McCarter Theatre Center; featured finalist at HowlRound’s LTC Carnaval of New Latinx Work, Relentless more(Playwright) was named Rising Theatre Star by the Improper Bostonian in the 2018 Boston’s Best Issue. She is the playwright behind Our Dear Dead Drug Lord (developed at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Off the Grid, and McCarter Theatre Center; featured finalist at HowlRound’s LTC Carnaval of New Latinx Work, Relentless Award semi-finalist, and Bay Area Playwrights Festival finalist); and Laughs in Spanish (Boston Playwrights' Theatre). She is a proud Miami native and New World School of the Arts alum, and holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from The Boston Conservatory. Alexis is in her final year of the MFA Playwriting program at Boston University, and moonlights as the Producing Artistic Director of the award-winning fringe company, Off the Grid Theatre.
