Each August since 2012, Cleveland Play House has received an impactful gift from a special group of donors: 12 bright and energetic eager-to-learn apprentices who apply for rare opportunities to learn beside theatre professionals for ten immersive months.
These young professionals come to CPH from all over the country, and sometimes internationally. They are looking for post-college experiences in a Tony Award-winning regional theatre, a chance to “try on” the reality of a career in the arts. It is a comprehensive educational experience, as CPH Apprentices attend seminars where issues vital to theatre are debated; enjoy hands on experience in administrative and technical departments; and live together in an Apprentice House owned by CPH. When CPH Apprentices move on to the next rung of their career ladder, they take with them hands on experience, creativity, a strong work ethic, and a passion for serving their community through theatre.
What does CPH and our community get in return? An infusion of new ideas and perspectives, an expansion of the CPH family that enables us to be more present with our stakeholders, and an opportunity to launch the careers of a diverse group of new leaders.
We are grateful to Walter and Jean Kalberer and others for their support of the CPH Apprentice Program through the Susan E. Watson Apprentice Trust Fund, an endowed fund that ensures a perpetual commitment to the CPH Apprentice Program.
Thank you to all who support Cleveland Play House. Our Apprentice Program is just one of the ways you make a difference at CPH, in our community and for theatre around the world
