SPECIAL EVENTS

Hamlet
May 28- Jun 1 • Bolton Theatre

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel, The Cleveland Play House presents The Cameri Theatre of Tel Aviv’s production of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.  Sponsored by the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland’s Israel@60 program, the production will be performed entirely in Hebrew, with simultaneous English translation through personal headsets.

The internationally-acclaimed Cameri Theatre’s Hamlet is a fast-paced, modern-dress version of the classic play.  With a specially-constructed set, audience members will be seated on the Bolton Stage in chairs that swivel 360 degrees, allowing them to experience the action from all angles.  The play will take place on platforms surrounding the audience, as well as on a runway in the middle of the stage, dividing the audience in two sections.

Directed by Omri Nitzan, this production has only been staged in the United States once since it premiered in 2005.  It won five 2005 Israeli Theatre Awards, including Best Production, Best Director (Omri Nitzan), Best Actor (Itai Tiran as Hamlet), Best Lighting Design (Keren Granek) and Best Translation (T. Carmi and Dan Almagor).

Due to the configuration of the theatre space, there will be only 156 seats, all general admission, for each public performance.

Performance dates and times:

Wednesday, May 28, 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, May 29, 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, June 1, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
