CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE RECEIVES MAJOR GRANT FROM

THE GEORGE GUND FOUNDATION

Cleveland, OH – July 10, 2015 – The George Gund Foundation awarded Cleveland Play House (CPH) a major grant of $580,000 that includes operating support for the 2015-16 100th Anniversary Season. The gift also provides a Project Support Grant for the CPH Centennial Action Plan, which maximizes the opportunity presented by the 100th anniversary to celebrate CPH’s legacy, advance its organizational goals, and position CPH for its second century of service to the Northeast Ohio and national theatre communities.

“This grant celebrates Cleveland Play House’s contributions to the community during its first 100 years and helps set the stage for its success in the next 100,” said Gund Foundation Executive Director David Abbott, who noted that the foundation’s founder served on the CPH board for many years.

The George Gund Foundation was established in 1952 as a private, nonprofit institution with the sole purpose of contributing to human well-being and the progress of society.

“As CPH becomes the first regional theatre in the country to celebrate a centennial, we strive to create 21stcentury manifestations of our founding ideals of artistry, community, and innovation on our stages and in classrooms and communities across the region. The centennial season will honor our past and this incredible community that has made our work possible and meaningful as well as launch the future of creating great theatre for every generation for generations to come,” states CPH Artistic Director Laura Kepley. “The CPH board and staff are deeply grateful to The George Gund Foundation for its longstanding, generous support of our work for the people of Northeast Ohio.”

Cleveland Play House launches its landmark 100thSeason on September 5, 2015 with the world premiere of Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors, directed by Stephen Wadsworth. The production’s run has already been extended and it will now run through October 3, 2015 in the Allen Theatre at Playhouse Square.
