A fascinating coming-of-age story that seamlessly explores art, family, religion, and loyalty. My Name is Asher Lev follows the journey of a young Jewish painter torn between his Hasidic upbringing and a desperate need to fulfill his artistic genius. This stirring adaptation of Chaim Potok's modern classic presents a triumphant vision of what it means to be an artist.

Content Advisory: My Name is Asher Lev is appropriate for most adult and teenage audiences. The play contains a few instances of adult language. There is brief nudity as an artist's figure model poses for a painting.

What talent! An excellent production. Was surprised not to see more teens. more We were the only ones with children -- it's a great history lesson for kids, not to mention exposure to exquite acting. And the student ticket price is fantastic. Highly recommend for high schoolers/college-age.

- Mary, University Hts

Simply put, My Name is Asher Lev is a masterpiece.

- Roger Smith, Ashtabula Star Beacon

Noel Joseph Allain absolutely nailed Asher. A beautiful performance, Williamsburg-yiddische accent and all.

Only quibbling about the adaptation ..... what it left out ..... about the other uncle whom Asher lived with when his mother left for Vienna .... and another important character, the man who sold Asher his painting supplies but who had great loyalty to Asher's father (for good reason). Those two characters could have provided the historical background that I thought was somehow lacking, and certainly would have filled in a lot

of holes in the narrative. Still, if I had never read the book, I'd not have

had those reservations, because what was actually presented was Good Theatre .... and given life by

three amazing actors and a fine director. (Not to mention the subtle but effective musical background.) This was Cleveland Play House at its best.

- JP, LAKEWOOD

Riveting and gut wrenching. Spectacular performances, perfect staging and music, brilliant script. The more best play I've seen since Death of a Salesman with Brian Dennehy.

This performance was the definition of what makes great art - in theory and more in practice.

- John McElwain , North Olmsted

We thoroughly enjoyed the performance of "My Name Is Asher Lev". It was quite true more to the book. The smaller, more intimate stage lent itself well to this story. The music was particularly effective and the cast was superb.

- Greg and Lisa Bell Benedetto, Cleveland Hts.

A fascinating and provocative production. The acting was terrific. The interplay among the parents and more son and the conflict between convention (tradition) and individual expression are both universal and timeless. The intimacy of the thrust theatre and the minimalist sets added to the power and poignancy. Congratulations to Laura Kepley on her directorial debut at CPH!

- RK, Shaker Heights

- Joanne G., Cleveland
